But is BH Cosmetics cruelty-free? These days, the issue of animal testing isn’t as black-and-white as many think. Different market regulations and no legal definitions make it easy for brands to call themselves “cruelty-free” while still benefiting from animal testing.

About BH Cosmetics

BH Cosmetics hasn’t been around long. It launched in 2009 in Los Angeles, California. From the start, the brand put its focus on Millenials and Gen Z shoppers. Unlike other big-name makeup brands, BH Cosmetics doesn’t rely on third-party retailers. It’s a direct-to-consumer brand that’s built a loyal following in the last decade!

Take a quick look at the BH Cosmetics lineup and you’ll see why the brand has grown so much in recent years. Color and vibrancy are key to all products. BH Cosmetics primarily sells eyeshadow pallets in unique themes. Though, they also offer makeup tools and other colorful cosmetics.

In 2018, MidOcean Partners acquired BH Cosmetics. MidOcean Partners owns several brands in and out of the makeup world. Despite the acquisition, operations at BH Cosmetics did not change.

Is BH Cosmetics Cruelty-Free?

We’re happy to say that BH Cosmetics is a true cruelty-free company! The brand does not test its finished products or ingredients on animals anywhere in the world.

BH Cosmetics is very transparent about this fact. The company has a dedicated blog page that discloses its stance on animal welfare. There, you can also learn more about safety regulations and manufacturing certifications for peace of mind!

Policies On Third-Party Testing

BH Cosmetics is true to its word and does not allow third-party testing on animals either. This is evident by the brand’s Leaping Bunny Certification

To get that certification, brands have to meet several criteria, including continual monitoring to ensure that suppliers and third-parties don’t test any ingredient on animals.

Many cosmetics companies use third-party testers as a workaround. Since there is no legal definition for “cruelty-free” cosmetics exists, companies can test at the supplier level while still marketing themselves as cruelty-free. It’s unscrupulous but more common than you think!

Luckily, BH Cosmetics does not partake in any of that.

Is BH Cosmetics Available In China?

BH Cosmetics does not sell any of its products in China or any other country that requires animal testing. China is one of the few holdouts that still require testing before cosmetics products can hit store shelves.

Some makeup brands will lose their cruelty-free status just so they can tap into the Chinese market. BH Cosmetics is not one of them.

Now, BH Cosmetics products are made in China. But, the laws differ for manufacturing and selling. Manufacturing facilities don’t have to test on animals as long as the products aren’t sold locally.

All in all, BH Cosmetics is a brand that’s worth buying. It is cruelty-free and does not benefit from animal testing in any way, shape, or form! All of the products in the BH Cosmetics line are ethical when it comes to animal welfare!
